Honoring a Legacy of Service: The George Roy Community Grant 2025
George Roy dedicated 38 years of service as the President/CEO of Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union, retiring in July 2024. In honor of his unwavering commitment to the community and the credit union, the Lisbon Community Credit Union Board of Directors established the George Roy Community Grant. This grant aims to provide financial support to local nonprofit organizations that share our passion for improving the lives of the people we serve.
About the Georgbe Roy Community Grant:
The George Roy Community Grant is designed to help local nonprofits make a significant impact in our community. For 2025, the grant amount is set at up to $10,000. Each year, the Board of Directors will determine the grant amount, which may vary from year to year.
2025 Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for the George Roy Community Grant, nonprofit organizations must meet the following criteria:
Location: Only nonprofit organizations located in the areas where Lisbon Community Credit Union operates are eligible to apply. Our field of Membership includes the residents of Lisbon, Lewiston, Durham, Bowdoin, Sabattus, Topsham, Pownal, and Auburn.
Focus: The primary focus of the grant is to promote health, wellness, and growth within the community, aiming to improve the overall quality of life for its citizens.
2025 Application and Selection Process:
Application Availability: Applications can be downloaded from our website at www.lisboncu.org/grant.
Submission Deadline: All applications must be submitted by November 3, 2025, at 5 PM Eastern Time.
Announcement of Winner: The grant recipient will be announced on or before December 19, 2025.
Please note: Organizations or programs that receive funding are not eligible for funding in the following year but may reapply in subsequent years.
Grant Impact Report:
Organizations awarded the George Roy Community Grant are expected to submit an impact report. This report should highlight the achievements made possible through the grant and the benefits it provided to the organization and the community they serve.
Our 2025 Award Recipient - Durham Youth Baseball
Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that Durham Youth Baseball has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the George Roy Community Grant.
The up to $10,000 grant will support the construction of a community batting cage, a versatile training resource designed to enhance player development while easing the challenges of a tightly scheduled practice field.
The new batting cage will provide Durham Youth Baseball with added flexibility, allowing teams to practice more efficiently and giving players additional opportunities to develop fundamental skills.
“Hitting a baseball is one of the most difficult skills to master in sports,” said Kyle Pouliot, Vice President of Durham Youth Baseball. “Batting training helps develop aerobic fitness, hand-eye coordination, determination, critical thinking, and timing.”
Pouliot noted that the benefits extend beyond hitting. “The dimensions of the batting cage will also allow players to practice pitching. The benefits of constructing this batting cage are two-fold for kids who want to work on both hitting and pitching.”
Durham Youth Baseball anticipates the batting cage will have a positive and lasting impact not only on its players, but on the broader community. Pouliot envisions the space being used by youth athletes, families, volunteer coaches, local schools, after-school programs, and community members, as the batting cage will also be available for public use.
The George Roy Community Grant reflects Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to investing in projects that strengthen local organizations and enrich the communities they serve.
